ElectricalOM closes unexpectedly

Some users may find that ElectricalOM closes on its own without an error message, sometimes after freezing for a few seconds. It may not happen at the same step each time.

Cause

The cause is under investigation. From version 2026.10.27.01, ElectricalOM records what happens when it closes this way, so that it can be sent to MODECSOFT support.

What to do

Install ElectricalOM 2026.10.27.01 or later, then send a crash report each time ElectricalOM closes without a message:

  1. Start ElectricalOM again.
  2. Go to Support > Maintenance > Send Crash Report...
  3. In the box, write a line about what you were doing when ElectricalOM closed, for example "editing a circuit", "saving", "idle for a few minutes" or "switching between programs".
  4. Click Send. The report goes directly to support@modecsoft.com; no e-mail program is needed.

The report contains the ElectricalOM version, the serial number, the licence holder and computer name, the Windows version and processor, ElectricalOM's crash logs, the Windows event log entries for ElectricalOM from the last 30 days, the newest crash dump and your note.

Note:
A crash dump is a snapshot of ElectricalOM's memory at the moment it closed, so it may include parts of the project that was open.

Full crash dump

By default, Windows writes a small crash dump of a few MB. If support asks for a full crash dump:

  1. Go to Support > Maintenance > Full Crash Dumps, answer Yes and allow the Windows administrator prompt. Full Crash Dumps now shows a tick in the menu.
  2. Work as normal until ElectricalOM closes again, then send a crash report as above.
  3. A full crash dump is too large for e-mail. ElectricalOM saves it on the Desktop as ElectricalOM_crash_dump_<date-time>.zip and opens the folder. Send this file to support@modecsoft.com with WeTransfer, OneDrive, Dropbox or a similar service.
  4. Once support confirms the file has been received, go to Support > Maintenance > Full Crash Dumps again to turn it off, and delete the zip file from the Desktop.

Note:
A full crash dump is about the size of ElectricalOM's memory use in Task Manager, often a few hundred MB; Windows keeps only the newest three. The setting applies to the whole computer, so it needs administrator permission; on managed computers, ask your IT administrator. Installing a new version of ElectricalOM turns full crash dumps off again.

If ElectricalOM does not start

E-mail the files in these two folders to helpdesk@modecsoft.com. Paste each path into the File Explorer address bar and press Enter:

  • %APPDATA%\MODECSOFT Ltd\ElectricalOM\ErrorDump (crash logs, crash_*.txt)
  • %LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps (crash dumps, ElectricalOM.exe.*.dmp)

Crash recording does not slow ElectricalOM down; nothing runs until ElectricalOM closes because of an error. Nothing is sent until you click Send.
